Mandy and Richard warmly welcome you to their lovingly restored 16th century
family home. A building of long and varied past, which was renamed in 1997 to Elbie
House. Elbie House is a large stone house which nestles in the peaceful hamlet of
East End. Complete and extensive restoration has created a warm and luxurious home.
It is one of the oldest buildings in the area and even boasts the signature of Sir Winston
Churchill amongst the deeds.
In the early days of the extensive renovation, undertaken by Richard and Mandy, an elderly lady in her 90's called by to tell a story of her childhood growing up in Elbie House. At that time it was a farmers' meeting place and she recalled a caged bear dancing as entertainment! No longer dancing bears, but dogs, chickens, a large tortoise, rabbits and bearded dragons all live in harmony.
Our guests are welcome to come and go freely during their stay and take full advantage of the spotless, warm and tastefully furnished rooms, including beverage tray, iron and ironing board, colour television, hair dryer, fridge and bathrobes in rooms. Impeccably presented bathroooms with toiletries and soft towels. The garden is a real treasure and continues to improve each year. Topiary lollipops and shaped box and bay continue to be a bit of an adiction. 2009 saw a raised oak vegetable garden take it's place alongside the chicken house and as complete novices to growing produce, continue to do pretty well and offer soft fruit at breakfast during the summer..
Aga cooked breakfasts include our free range eggs and locally sourced free range meat where possible. Breakfast is prepared using only fine quality foods including free range eggs, local produce, homemade bread, preserves and jams. Vegetarian and special diets catered for with the minimum of fuss. Spacious accomodation enables our guests to breakfast in their rooms.
